What are nano brows?
Nano brows are created using a professional digital permanent makeup machine and an ultra-fine needle configuration. The artist implants pigment into the skin with controlled machine movements, creating individual strokes that resemble natural eyebrow hairs.
Nano brows are often compared with microblading, because both can produce hair-stroke results. The difference is the tool: microblading uses a manual blade to make small cuts in the skin, while nano brows are created with a machine and needle. At Frenkel PMU House we work exclusively with professional machine techniques. We do not perform traditional microblading.
Depending on your skin, natural brow growth, previous permanent makeup, and desired result, your artist may recommend nano brows, powder brows, or a combination of hair strokes and soft shading.

Nano brows vs. microblading
The main difference between the two is the tool used to place the pigment. Microblading is performed with a handheld blade; nano brows are performed with a digital PMU machine and a fine needle.
Machine work gives the artist precise control over the movement and placement of each stroke, and it may be considered for a wider range of clients — although no single technique is ideal for everyone.
Your skin type, pore size, natural brow hair, lifestyle, previous permanent makeup, and healing history all affect which technique will produce the best result.
Are nano brows suitable for oily skin?
Clients with oily skin can sometimes receive nano brows, but the healed strokes may not stay as crisp as they would on normal or dry skin. Excess oil production can cause fine strokes to heal softer or blur more quickly.
For clients with very oily or porous skin, powder brows or combination brows often provide a more predictable healed result.
During your consultation your artist will evaluate your skin and explain which technique is likely to age most naturally. We would rather recommend the right service than perform nano strokes simply because they are popular.
What if you already have permanent makeup?
Previous eyebrow tattooing, microblading, or permanent makeup can limit the techniques available to you. Nano hair strokes usually cannot be placed successfully over brows with strong, visible pigment — the old color shows underneath the new strokes and prevents the result from looking natural.
In many cases:
- Light, significantly faded pigment may be workable
- Visible old pigment may only be suitable for a powder refresh
- Dark, saturated, uneven, or incorrectly shaped pigment may require removal before redesigning the brows
As a general guideline, previous brow pigment should be roughly 80% faded before a completely new shape or realistic hair-stroke pattern can be considered.

How the nano brow process works
1. Consultation and brow assessment
Your appointment begins with a detailed consultation. We discuss how you normally wear your brows, which areas you would like to improve, and whether you prefer a very soft or a more structured result. Your artist also assesses your skin type, natural brow growth, facial proportions and symmetry, any existing permanent makeup, scar tissue or areas with missing hair, and your preferred shape and color.
2. Custom brow mapping
Your brows are mapped before the procedure begins. The artist creates a shape that works with your natural features rather than relying on a standard template, and small natural differences between the two sides of your face are accounted for during design. You review and approve the mapped shape before any pigment is implanted.
3. Custom pigment selection
Pigment is selected based on your natural eyebrow hair, skin undertone, and desired healed result. Permanent makeup looks darker and more defined immediately after the appointment, then softens as the skin heals — which is why pigment is chosen with the healed result in mind, not just how it looks on day one.
4. Precision machine application
Using a professional PMU machine, your artist creates fine strokes that follow the direction and flow of your natural brow hair. Topical numbing is used to keep you comfortable. Most appointments take approximately two to three hours, including consultation, mapping, pigment selection, and the procedure itself.
5. Healing and aftercare
Your brows will look darker and more defined immediately afterward. During healing they may feel slightly tender, appear warmer in color, and begin to flake. They can also look temporarily lighter or uneven before the pigment settles — this is a normal part of healing and is not the final result.
The visible healing period is usually around 10 to 14 days, although the skin continues to settle beneath the surface afterward. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions before leaving the studio.
Nano brow aftercare
Proper aftercare plays an important role in pigment retention and the quality of your healed result. Clients are generally advised to:
- Follow the cleansing and aftercare instructions provided by your artist
- Avoid picking, scratching, or removing flakes
- Avoid applying brow makeup until the area has healed
- Keep strong skincare products away from the brows
- Avoid pools, hot tubs, saunas, and ocean water for approximately two weeks
- Limit heavy sweating during the initial healing period
- Protect healed brows from excessive sun exposure
Specific instructions may vary based on your skin and your treatment.
Is a touch-up required?
Permanent makeup is a multi-step process. After the first session heals, some areas may retain more pigment than others. A perfecting touch-up lets your artist assess the healed brows and refine the color, shape, or stroke density where needed.
The touch-up is generally scheduled 4–12 weeks after your initial appointment.

How long do nano brows last?
Nano brows may last approximately 12 to 24 months before a color refresh is desired, though retention varies from person to person. Results can be affected by skin type and oil production, sun exposure, skincare products and facial treatments, metabolism, medications and health factors, aftercare, pigment color, and lifestyle or sweating.
Permanent makeup is designed to fade gradually, which allows the shape and color to be adjusted as your face, preferences, and natural brow hair change. Many clients choose a refresh every 12 to 18 months, but your artist should evaluate how much pigment remains before another procedure is performed.
Who may not be eligible for nano brows?
Nano brows are not appropriate for every client. Your appointment may need to be postponed or require additional clearance if you:
- Are pregnant or nursing
- Have an active infection, irritation, sunburn, or open wound near the brows
- Recently received certain facial treatments
- Have a medical condition or take medication that affects healing
- Have heavily saturated previous permanent makeup
- Are unable to follow the recommended aftercare
