Thinking about lip blush but not sure what the appointment actually involves? Here is exactly what happens when you come in for lip blushing at our Leander studio — from the first conversation to the moment you see your healed color.
1. Consultation & color selection
First, we talk about your goals. Do you want a subtle, barely-there blush — or a more noticeable pop of color? Your artist assesses your natural lip shade and undertone, then custom-mixes a pigment. Pigments come in a wide range of pinks, corals, and mauves; for most clients we match the color of the inner lip or your natural flushing color, so the result complements your skin tone and looks like you.
One principle guides the choice: it is always easier to add color later than to remove it. We start slightly lighter and more natural in the first session — your touch-up is where we perfect depth and saturation.
2. Numbing
Lips are sensitive, so a topical numbing cream goes on first and sits for 15–20 minutes. Most clients are pleasantly surprised — with proper numbing, the procedure feels like a light vibration or faint scratching. Numbing gel is reapplied throughout the session to keep you comfortable.
3. The procedure
Your artist begins by outlining the lips to create a balanced shape — a blended outline, not a harsh lip-liner look, that gently corrects and defines. Then, using a permanent makeup device, pigment is layered into the lips in several soft passes, with slightly more attention at the borders for symmetry. The full session takes about 1.5–2 hours including numbing.
4. Immediately after
Right after your session, lips may be slightly swollen and look brighter than expected — a soft pink can read hot-pink at first because of blood flow and surface pigment. This is completely normal: the color softens by 30–50% as your lips heal, settling into the shade you chose. You leave with a soothing balm applied and a soft, enhanced shape already visible.
5. Healing & your touch-up
Over the first week you may see light flaking — no picking! Follow your aftercare instructions, and your true color emerges as the skin settles. A perfecting touch-up at 4–12 weeks ($190) completes the process and locks in your result, which typically lasts 1–3 years.
