Healed corrective brow result over previous permanent makeup at Frenkel PMU House in Leander TX

Previous permanent makeup does not automatically rule out a new service, but it changes the plan. The age of the old work is only one factor. Its color, saturation, shape, position and visibility in the skin matter just as much.

At Frenkel PMU House, we review clear, makeup-free photos before approving an appointment over existing pigment. Sometimes a machine brow service is possible. Sometimes more fading or removal is the more responsible next step. We would rather give you an honest answer than add pigment to a result that is unlikely to improve.

Why old pigment changes the new design

A new procedure can add pigment, but it cannot erase color outside the shape you want. Old work that is dark, gray, red, blue, uneven or placed beyond the proposed brow can remain visible around a new design.

Fresh hairstrokes also need a relatively clean background. When old pigment is clearly visible, new strokes may disappear into it after healing or make the brow look busier. This is why a photograph and in-person assessment are more useful than a simple yes or no answer.

Can nano brows go over old microblading?

Nano brows use a permanent makeup machine to create fine hairstroke patterns. They are not traditional microblading. Nano may be considered when the previous pigment is very soft, light and positioned inside the new design, and when the skin can reasonably support healed stroke detail.

When the old pigment is still strong or clearly visible, nano hairstrokes are generally not the right choice. Adding more fine lines over a dense background does not create the clean, natural separation clients usually want.

When powder or combination brows may work

Powder brows use controlled shading rather than isolated hairstrokes. For some clients with faded previous work, a soft powder design can be more suitable because it builds an even veil of color. Combination brows may add limited stroke detail with shading when the existing background allows it.

Powder is not an automatic cover-up. The old shape still needs to fit inside the proposed design, and the color must be light enough to support a new plan. For a significant redesign, Frenkel PMU House generally wants the previous pigment to be about 80% faded.

When removal may be recommended

Removal may be the safest next step when the old pigment is too dark, highly saturated, discolored, uneven or outside the desired shape. It may also be recommended when adding more pigment would create unnecessary density or limit future correction options.

Using flesh-toned pigment to hide unwanted color is not the same as removing it. Camouflage pigment can change over time and may make later work more complicated. A careful plan protects the long-term result, even when it takes more time.

What to send before booking

  • One straight-on photo in clear natural light
  • One photo from each side
  • No brow pencil, concealer, fresh tint, filter or beauty mode
  • The approximate date of the original procedure and every touch-up
  • Any removal history and the approximate date of the last removal session
  • A short description of what you want to change about the color, shape or finish

Photo approval helps prevent an unsuitable booking. The final decision is made in person after the artist sees the skin and pigment directly. If treatment is appropriate, the proposed shape is mapped and approved before any pigment is placed.

Pricing and appointment planning

Approved nano, powder or combination brow services are $380 for the initial appointment. A $50 deposit reserves the appointment and is applied toward the service.

A separate perfecting appointment is $190 and is normally considered 4–12 weeks later when the healed result would benefit from refinement. It is not automatically necessary for every client. Skin type, natural healing, lifestyle, sun exposure, skincare, retention and aftercare can all affect the decision.

Previous work performed by another artist is evaluated as a new correction or cover-up case. It is not automatically eligible for the $190 perfecting rate.

Frequently asked questions

How faded should my old brows be?

For a major redesign, the previous work generally needs to be about 80% faded. The visible color and position matter more than the age alone, so a photo review is required.

Can you correct red, gray, blue, or very dark brows?

Possibly, but the recommendation depends on saturation, shape, skin and the result you want. Strong or misplaced pigment may need removal before new work can be considered.

Will a new service erase the old shape?

No. New pigment cannot remove color outside the proposed design. If the unwanted shape remains visible, removal may be needed first.

Is a correction guaranteed to need only one appointment?

No. Retention and color response vary. The artist evaluates each fully healed result before recommending another session.
